Mr. Orii Sunao is the Director of the Business and Human Rights Policy Office at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI). His main responsibilities include overseeing the Ministry’s overall business and human rights policy. Mr. Orii has previously served as a member of the Ministry’s Policy Planning Committee, representing the Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, until July 2023. Mr. Orii has diverse experience, including in energy, climate and technology policy, having also served as Attaché at the Mission of Japan to the European Union from 2017 to 2021. Mr. Orii holds a master’s degree in engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, San Diego.
