Maimunah Jaffar promotes and practices sustainability and innovation in delivering her daily works in Iskandar Malaysia. She set out on her worked life as an architect in year 1988 in the United States and in 1992, she returned home and worked as an urban designer in one of the prestigious companies in Kuala Lumpur. In 2007 she joint Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), and now she is one of IRDA’s Director and leads the Technology and Innovation workstream. She developed the Iskandar Malaysia Comprehensive Development Plan in 2005, and Smart City Iskandar Malaysia Framework in 2012.
Maimunah leads the Smart City Iskandar Malaysia team in IRDA and Chief Smart City Officer for Johor Bahru in the ASEAN Smart City Network program alliances. She is in the ProTeam Committee of Malaysia Smart Cities Alliance and committee member of Malaysia Green Building Council Southern Chapter.
She has successfully secured Iskandar Malaysia to become a pilot project for the United Nation Energy Efficiency Acceleration program, launched at the United Nations conference, New York in October 2014. She represented Iskandar Malaysia to launch and speak in the Conference of Parties (COP) and speaks at various national and international conferences and summits on the topic of Sustainable and Smart City. In 2015, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) selected Maimunah as one of the many females faces in sustainable places exhibition in Boston, USA.
