CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council. \u202fFounded in 1984, the Council represents 170 of the largest American businesses in Southeast Asia through its headquarters in Washington, DC, and its seven regional offices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A diplomat for thirty years, Ambassador Osius served from 2014 to 2017 as U.S. ambassador to Vietnam.\u202f Leading a team of 900, Ambassador Osius devised and implemented strategies to deepen economic, security and cultural ties between the two countries.\u202f In October 2021, Rutgers University Press will publish his book,\u202f<em>Nothing Is Impossible: America\u2019s Reconciliation with Vietnam<\/em>, covering the two countries\u2019 25-year journey from adversaries to friends and partners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After his departure from government, Osius joined Google Asia-Pacific as Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, covering 19 Asian nations from Google\u2019s Singapore headquarters.\u202f Earlier, he was a senior advisor at the Albright-Stonebridge Group and the first Vice President of Fulbright University Vietnam.\u202f Osius was associate professor at the National War College and Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a diplomat, Osius served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Political Minister-Counselor in New Delhi, India.\u202f Osius also served as deputy director of the Office of Korean Affairs at the State Department, regional environment officer for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and senior advisor on Asia and trade to Vice President Al Gore.\u202f He also served in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, and at the United Nations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador Osius has authored numerous articles on Foreign Service tradecraft and U.S.-Asia policy.\u202f He wrote\u202f<em>The U.S.-Japan Security Alliance: Why It Matters and How&nbsp;To&nbsp;Strengthen It\u202f<\/em>(CSIS\/Praeger 2002) as a fellow at the Japan Institute for International Affairs (\u65e5\u672c\u56fd\u969b\u554f\u984c\u7814\u7a76\u6240).\u202f While at CSIS, he published \u201cGlobal Swing States: Deepening Partnerships with India and Indonesia\u201d (<em>Asia Policy,<\/em>\u202fJanuary 2014),<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/enhancing-india-asean-connectivity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u202f<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/enhancing-india-asean-connectivity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enhancing India-ASEAN Connectivity<\/a>\u202fand<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/us-indonesia-partnership-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u202f<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/analysis\/us-indonesia-partnership-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A US-Indonesia Partnership for 2020<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador Osius earned a&nbsp;Bachelor\u2019s&nbsp;degree from Harvard University, a Master\u2019s degree from Johns Hopkins University\u2019s School of Advanced International Studies, and an Honorary Doctorate from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.\u202f He was the first U.S. ambassador to receive the Order of Friendship from the President of Vietnam.\u202f He serves on the Asia Foundation\u2019s Board of Trustees and numerous advisory boards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ambassador Osius speaks Vietnamese, French and Italian, and a bit of Japanese, Indonesian, Hindi, Thai, Tagalog and Greek.\u202f He and his husband, Clayton Bond, have a seven-year-old son and six-year-old daughter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":1456,"template":"","categories":[4],"class_list":["post-1455","allspeakers","type-allspeakers","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-speakers"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/allspeakers\/1455","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/allspeakers"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/allspeakers"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/1456"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1455"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/indopacificbusinessforum.com\/2021\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1455"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
